concentration camp slave laborers
die in connection to the
manufacture of
Germany's V-2 rocket. Despite it
being a weapon of war, it was
also the world's first true space
vehicle.
July 1964:
Worker falls to his death during
construction of the huge Apollo
Vehicle Assembly Building.
August 1965:
Lightning strikes kills worker at
Cape Canaveral launch complex 39.
April 1964: Three
workers killed when rocket engine
accidently ignites inside
building at Cape Canaveral
June 1973:
Nine workers killed in lauchpad
accident at Plesetsk Cosmodrome
in Russia.
March 1981: Two
technicians overcome by nitrogen
gas inside Shuttle Columbia
engine compartment.
May 1995:
Two European Space Agency workers

Chinese Long March Rocket crashes

Contacter employee killed in
industrial accident at Cape

Russian soldier killed by debris
when unmanned Soyuz rocket
disintegrated upon takeoff.
March 2006:
Roof repair worker killed after
falling from warehouse at Kennedy
Space Center.
July 2007:
Three workers killed in explosion
at Spaceport in Mohave,
California. Spaceport is owned by
Scaled Composites Inc, the
company that flew the first
privately owned spaceship into
sub-orbit in 2004
